Our approach

How we work

We do not simply hand over documents. We run each assignment as a structured engagement that ends with something your organisation has validated, approved and can implement.

Engagement pathway

Seven steps from question to results

  1. 1

    Understand and diagnose

Inception meeting, document review, data collection and management interviews, summarised in an inception note that confirms scope, questions and timeline.

  2. 2

    Design and draft

Analysis and drafting of the deliverables as one integrated package — every objective, activity and indicator linked to the next.

  3. 3

    Quality review

An internal review for coherence, evidence, practicality, financial realism, governance clarity and measurable indicators before anything reaches you.

  4. 4

    Validate

A management validation workshop run as a decision session, with a structured comment matrix recording every comment, our response and the action taken.

  5. 5

    Finalise and approve

Clean and tracked versions, an executive summary, board presentation and approval memo — everything your board needs to decide.

  6. 6

    Implement

Optional implementation support: cascading objectives to departments, finalising KPIs, dashboards and the first management and board performance reviews.

  7. 7

    Build capacity and learn

Practical training for the people who will use the tools, and an annual review that feeds the next planning cycle.

Engagement models

Ways to work with us

Full package

We take the assignment from diagnosis to approval, with training and implementation support priced separately.

Modular

Choose individual deliverables — a strategic plan, a business plan, an M&E strategy — to manage cost and pace.

Retainer

Ongoing monthly advisory support: performance reviews, dashboards, corrective-action tracking and board reporting.

Fees

How we price

We price by the scope and depth of work — the analysis, consultations, facilitation and implementation support an assignment needs — not by the number of pages.

  • Document development is usually a fixed professional fee, paid against milestones.
  • Workshops and training are priced per day; implementation support can run on a monthly retainer.
  • Reimbursable costs (travel, venues, printing) are shown separately, never hidden in fees.
  • Fees are quoted exclusive of statutory taxes; VAT and withholding tax are treated in line with Tanzanian law.

Quality assurance

Our quality checklist

  • Strategic coherence

Do all the documents tell one consistent institutional story?

  • Evidence quality

Are claims supported by data, market realities or the regulatory context?

  • Practicality

Can the organisation actually implement what is proposed?

  • Financial realism

Are revenue and cost assumptions reasonable?

  • Governance clarity

    Is ownership of implementation clear?

  • Performance tracking

    Are indicators measurable and traceable?

  • Language quality

Is the wording clear and suitable for management and board use?

FAQ

Common questions

Usually with a short conversation about your objectives, followed by a technical and financial proposal: our understanding of the assignment, the scope, methodology, deliverables, work plan, team and fees. Work begins once the proposal is agreed and a contract is signed.

We price by scope and depth of work, not by page count. Most document-development assignments use a fixed professional fee paid against milestones (typically on signing, on the draft package, after validation, and on final approval). Workshops and training are priced per day, and implementation support can run on a monthly retainer. Reimbursable costs such as travel and venues are shown separately.

A realistic timeline for a strategic plan with its business plan, operating plan and M&E strategy is six to ten weeks, excluding delays in receiving data. Smaller assignments are faster; we agree the timeline in the proposal.

Yes, if you want us to. Many clients take a separate implementation-support package: KPI finalisation, dashboards, staff orientation, the first management performance reviews and the first board performance report.

Our fees are quoted exclusive of statutory taxes unless stated otherwise. Where withholding tax applies, it is treated in accordance with Tanzanian tax law and we ask the client to provide the withholding tax certificate.

We are based in Dodoma, Tanzania, and work wherever our clients need us — travelling for fieldwork, workshops and meetings, and working remotely where that suits the assignment.

Yes. Client information is used only to deliver the assignment, and we are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement. We never publish a client’s name or work without their permission.
